1958 Christmas eve supper at Victor Holm’s, a tradition of the Holm and Baker families. This gathering was the high point of our holiday. Jenny cooked old world foods including flat bread, Swedish meat balls, whole fresh baked ham or roast turkey with decorated drumsticks, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, lute fish, and salt cod. Greta and her husband Murray would bring venison and tossed salad. The adults ate at the dining room table and the grandchildren ate in the alcove in the kitchen. After dinner was over and the dishes cleaned, the French doors to the living room were opened, and everyone would exchange gifts around the Christmas tree. Finally there would be pie and coffee.

Around the table from the left front: Greta Baker, Mrs. Richter, Shirley Wahlberg, Gunnar Wahlberg, Carl Holm, Murray Baker, Victor Holm, and Aurora Hovey. Helen Holm and Jenny Holm are outside the picture. The Wahlberg’s were friends of Carl and Helen who had retired to Iron County from Chicago and Mrs. Richter was Shirley’s mother.
